We’re moving!

We have some big news to share. Our OG building is getting demolished, but we are moving to a new home in time for xmas.

It was a quarter of a century ago when Deb and Adrian moved into a rundown warehouse on Creekside and filled it with artists. It was the 90s and Deptford had a growing arts scene which needed studios to rent - Art Hub Studios was born. You can read more about our history HERE

25 years later, things have changed and we now house nearly 300 artists across two sites in Deptford and Woolwich with a small team of local artists running the studios. We have managed to weather many storms (and leaks), but unfortunately we can no longer remain in the building we started in.

But, it’s not all doom and gloom…

We’ve spent the last 2 years working with Lewisham Council to find a way to protect Art Hub Studios and the community of artists we house. With their support we are moving into a council owned Victorian school on the edge of New Cross and Deptford, currently known as Mornington Centre - Yippee!

The relocation to Mornington Centre will safeguard our studios and gallery, plus provide additional space for a further 25 local creative practitioners and businesses. Another amazing addition is Arts Network who are losing their building to redevelopment in Lee Green. They provide a valuable service in Lewisham, providing health and social inclusion through creativity.

Part of us taking on the site meant the Guardians who were living at the school had to move on. This was a difficult position for both sides and we feel sad that people lost their place of living. But, we feel bringing this beautiful heritage building back into a better state of repair and opening it up to more people is a positive attribute to the local neighbourhood and the Creative Enterprise Zone.

We are now in the process of painting, fixing, rewiring, painting, partitioning, cleaning, hoovering, plumbing and getting things ready for a big opening event, which everyone is welcome to…..
