What Matters could be thought about both as a question, or a challenge.

As the artists met to discuss their different practices, connections were found in their working with fragments, of re-working, repeating and re-visiting certain images or materials; the ‘matter’ of everyday objects becoming carriers of diverted meaning.

Some works ‘mattered’ more than others and were constantly there, asking to be returned to.

What Matters... has also been the question we have all had to ask ourselves, a re-invention of relational priorities through this period; the uncertainty of moving forward towards our remembered state of normality.

Today the question of proximity takes on a significant meaning...being close can mean staying away.
